The push to develop private enterprise within Russia provided an opportunity for a new type of collaboration on an international project. The Privolnoye Farm, located outside of Krasnodar, wants to develop an exemplary dairy farm which would demonstrate a profitable, high quality milk production facility in the region. The University of Minnesota was invited to participate in developing the dairy production unit on the farm.
The goal is to construct a modern facility of 800 cows. The dairy center, once in operation, will also serve as a source of information for education and training about cutting edge dairy management practices, facilities and equipment. The faculty have traveled to provide technical assistance in the Privolnoye Dairy Center's first year of operation.
